I recently traveled to the South of Russia where women seem to be as obsessed as I am with all kinds of face oils such as olive oil, peach oil or my beloved almond oil. So before I left, my cousin’s wife handed me small bottles of these oils and another one that I never tried before: rose hip oil. Because I decided to put as little as possible on my face, I promised myself to try the new oil out some time later, but weeks have passed and I forgot about it.
As I stumbled across an online article where Miranda Kerr revealed her beauty secret of using rose hip oil every night, I suddenly remembered that I also own a bottle of this oil. I immediately tried this out, although I was very skeptical when I saw its strange orange colour. I was concerned that my face will have the same colour after using it, but I was surprised how quickly my skin absorbed it. No sign whatsoever of the oil on my face! It didn’t look oily, it only had a divine glow and looked very healthy. I have tested all kinds of oils and I have to say that this is especially great for Spring/Summer because it doesn’t leave an excessive oily residue on your skin.
But what is it about that oil that even Kate Middleton, Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham are using it? It is proven that rose hip oil can reduce scars and the appearance of wrinkles because it can stimulate skin cells to produce more collagen. Thus it is a very good anti-aging product, yet it is also a great beauty product for people with sensitive skin or annoying skin conditions such as acne. You can also add a couple of drops to your moisturizer or to your bath to lift up your mood!

Being an avid and passionate hunter for coupons, promotional codes, freebies and other shopping deals, I know how daunting the quest for such deals can seem when you are new to couponing. Yet as I wrote in another article, the times where you have to cut out coupons from newspapers are luckily gone! Simply one click on a link is enough to apply considerable discounts onto your object of desire. Speaking of, as you can easily read in my other blog posts, I am literally obsessed with new beauty products and secrets, but our current economy seems to force us to compromise everywhere. As a woman I don’t want to miss out on pampering myself regularly though. Especially now for Valentine’s Day we all want to look our best.
As a rule, you should always look for those shopping deals before you make a purchase. In one of my last blog posts I wrote about Irina Shayk’s habit of using cucumber slices on her face instead of creams. Now I want to talk about beautifying food that ALSO makes your skin smell extraordinarily nice: a yogurt-honey blend, an all-natural alternative for my daily face care, made of ingredients that you can find easily in your kitchen.
This delicious blend is as simple as it is effective. Especially dry and sensitive skin can profit from the manifold good properties that natural yogurt and honey have to offer. Natural yogurt acts as an antibacterial agent and also minimizes pores. It further soothes irritations and makes your face incredibly soft. Chose full-fat yogurt for dry skin and low-fat one for oily skin. Honey is the classic remedy for people who suffer from acne because just like yogurt it is antibacterial and anti-microbial. It also can heal acne scars and has anti-aging properties. Although honey is fairly moisturizing, people with oily skin can still use it. Really, honey is great for every skin type!
My simple daily morning routine is as follows: I first wash my face with cold water and then I apply the yogurt-honey mask. I leave it on for 20 minutes to have the best results. Then I wash the blend off with lukewarm water. If you want, you can proceed to use your usual cream, but I prefer to keep it simple and only apply the absolute minimum onto my skin. Say hello to peachy, soft skin with a wonderful scent!
Now my personally most hated season arrived: Winter! Being a person with a mild form of eczema, thus having fairly dry skin, this particular season is especially stressful to my skin with the cold outside and the “radiator air” inside. If you also suffer from eczema, other skin conditions that leave your skin dry or just generally suffer from dryness, you know what I am talking about. But even people with normal skin can experience unpleasant dry patches. No matter what you decide for, stay away from paraffinum liquidum!
In order to combat this dryness caused by Winter, I prefer various kinds of oils. My personal favourite at the moment is peach oil (for more kinds of oil check out olive oil and almond oil). This oil made of peach kernels is an odourless, smoothly thin oil that very quickly soaks into your skin and therefore is ideal for sensitive skin, too. I particularly like this oil due to its non-greasy formula. It is widely said that peach oil makes your appearance looks supple and youthful. This is because this oil contains high amounts of Vitamin A and E, so peach oil is also great to be used as an anti-aging product.
I particularly like to use it in the mornings, after I washed my face with sufficient cold water. Make sure your face is still mildly moist. This will help the oil to sink in even better!
P. S. Peach oil is great as a lip balm, too!

Paraffinum liquidum or mineral oil is used as an active ingredient in cosmetics and is mostly seen on the second place of the ingredients list on the back of these products such as Nivea or common baby oil. The brands who try to market them try hard to make us belief that liquid paraffin makes our skin smoother and softer.Yet we are already daily bombarded by toxins in our environment, so why using additives that harm our natural protective functions in the long-term?
We have to keep in mind that companies use paraffin because it is a quick and more importantly a cheap method to moisturize skin. After using creams with this particular additive your skin will feel initially satisfyingly moisturized and soft because it creates an oily film to prevent moisture from disappearing. It may sound great but mark that this film prevents your skin from respiration and that in turn makes your skin sweat a lot only to finally result in drying the skin out completely and causing a dependence on the mineral oil. Especially people who suffer already from dry skin conditions like psoriasis or eczema should be very careful with products that have been added with this oil.
Try as much as possible to stick to cosmetics that use shea butter, nurturing oils like olive oil or urea, the main substance in urine (don’t worry, it is odourless and very helpful for people with skin diseases).
To love yourself right now is to give yourself heaven. Don’t wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now.
Over the years I contemplated about what could be the most natural and easiest way to cleanse and nourish my face for the night from everyday pollution and make-up. There is of course an entire arsenal of products available in drug stores, supermarkets and also pharmacies (the latter does NOT guarantee healthier and more natural products!). However, as I mentioned in my previous blog posts, I really do think that nature is generous enough in giving us its remedies. Well, I recently rediscovered something that was used by queens since centuries: milk from goats, cows or donkeys (Cleopatra’s favourite).
There are manifold uses of this invaluable food, but because I was curious how far milk is also useful as a cleanser, I gave it a try and was not disappointed. On the contrary, my boyfriend keeps telling me how smooth and soft my facial skin became.
First of all I have to say that I solely use make-up for special occasions so I can wash my face only with water and two or three times with a mild children’s soap without perfume. Also my skin went through a bad patch recently where the entire right side of my face got incredibly inflamed. This was the turning point in my daily facial care: a pause from all the creams and make-up removers I used to use and decided to wash my face with plain cow’s milk. I really did not see any difference between goat’s or cow’s milk (I didn’t have the possibility to buy donkey’s milk yet).
So firstly I washed my face with lukewarm water with clean (!) hands to subsequently rinse it again with milk. Milk can produce a strange smell on your skin if you leave it on too long, so I washed it off immediately with cold water (remember, cold water has a nice lifting effect on your skin). I do realize however that milk will not be able to clean off make-up. Nevertheless I believe that after going through your regular routine with cleansers of your usual choice, milk can be a wonderful toner.
My skin looked immediately more glowing and my complexion, to put it in one word, was majestic! Additionally, as my better half said, it became incredibly soft to touch. This cleansing method has proved to be really worthwhile and I truly enjoyed the experience and can only recommend it!

Henna is my new -old hair obsession. From now on I feel I should be recommending henna shampoos for gals with dark hair! Henna can be many types and while some can be used for deep conditioning, others can leave a short-term color (red or black). Like any herb it should be approached with caution if used in herb form: certainly no more than once a month as it may eventually have a negative effect on your hair. If you would like to dye your hair with henna or similar natural products I highly recommend it!
However do read the instructions carefully to avoid a Sienna Miller disaster.
I used to dye my hair with red henna when I was in highschool and I experienced very positive results: my hair was shiny and grew stronger and with less split ends. And it was also colored which was a bonus.
Then I moved to a blonde hair color and the quality of my hair went downhill from then on. 3 years of constant coloring and highlighting took their toll and my hair was noticeably thinner than before and I was 19.
So I stopped dying it, went back to brown, and have been waiting for the past 3 years for it to grow out completely. I have learned the hard way that my natural hair looks better with my skin, eyebrow and eye color..
Now I use a french shampoo and conditioner from Nectar of Nature with henna and hazelnut, but I have also tried other brands with henna and have noticed them to be quite nice.
My hair is visibly shinier and has a nice rich color, but is not dyed.
If you don’t have the time to search for a completely natural henna and apply it, then I recommend finding a good quality shampoo that fits with your hair type. I also recommend that you should avoid washing your hair more and more often as washing daily may make your hair more oily in the long term.
People keep asking me if I am having more fun, being blonde, but I always have fun! Whether I’m blonde, redhead, or brunette! I always have fun.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries or the way she combs her hair.
For years the way I did my nails was to smear some nail polish on and call it done. However, this isn’t good for the health of your nails or for the looks of your manicure.
So here is what I do to maintain attractive and healthy long nails.
Take good care of your canvas!
- Use vitamin E oil (very cheap, and available via amazon)
- Use good quality nail files that don’t chip your nails (glass files are the best)
- Use a good undercoat to prevent yellow stains on your nails. I prefer to use a nail strengthening base instead of a simple undercoat. Mine is by Sally Johnson. It helps if your nails tips are prone to cracking and this keeps your manicure for a longer time. Don’t go overboard with removing the cuticles. If you cut them too aggressively you can not only cut yourself, but also increase their growth, making them stronger and more prominent.
- Don’t forget to buff the surface of your nails a bit to improve their smoothness: this, combined with the undercoat helps with easier application of the nail polish.
Cheap nail polish is also good!
- It’s better to spend money on good items that benefit the health of your nails rather than on nail polish that lasts very little and might not be used much.
- I have a lot of favorite brands from Flormar to Ms. Sporty which are around 1-2 pounds per bottle and honestly sometimes they have a better brush maybelline or rimmel for example.
- I usually apply one good coat and then do a second one on the next day. The reason for this is that 2 coats take too long to dry and that usually leads to marks onto the nail polish. This is why I also generally don’t put a topcoat on.
- A good tip for helping your nails dry is putting your hands under a stream of cold water (not too strong!), this helps the nailpolish harden faster.
For french manicure:
I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls.
Hope this helps!
